December!

We are already one third of the way through our year!
At this point, your child should be able to:
  1. Write his or her first name with correct capitals and lowercase letters
  2. Count to 50 by ones
  3. Read the 12 rainbow words on the homework calendars without having to sound any out
Is your child on track?

Assessments!

I have been doing A LOT of assessments since the beginning of the school year.  Now I am done gathering data (HOORAY) and we will be moving full steam ahead into instruction.  Our reading groups will be flexible--meaning that they will change as the children's needs and abilities change--no more bluebirds vs. buzzards.  I am going to try and squeeze some math groups in--a little tricky with our short day, but the children have been doing a terrific job adapting to working independently, so I would like to give it  a try....

First week--phew!!

We finished a very busy first week of school.  I think we were all glad when Friday came and it was a little cooler!
The newsletter from Friday and the September Homework calendar have been added to the website.  Paper copies of the homework calendar will be sen home on Monday.
The children will still wear their nametags next week--I have MOST of the fifty names learned, but I want to make sure :)
Was your child tired last week?

Almost...

I am really looking forward to getting this year started!
It was great to meet so many families at the "Meet & Greet" last week.  It looks like a great bunch of new kinders coming to school this year!
Hurry up Wednesday....

Summer is winding down....

My daughter had her first day of swim practice today for the high school season, so for us, summer is 99% over.  She is a senior, and probably will be a captain, so she really needs to not miss any days.

As you finish up your summer activities, try to start developing a regular sleep schedule (I know....), and help your child practice writing their name.  Come visit the building and peek in the windows--nothing is done in our room yet, but at least it will be a familiar place on the first day of school.

Classlists!! :)

I just got my classlists and I am so excited!  Lots of new little friends to meet, several siblings that I have known since they were little-little, so much potential and possibilities.

We will be having our "Meet and Greet" on Wednesday, August 29 from 6:00-7:30 in the evening--hopefully I will see yo then!

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmm"

We started our unit "My Earth" a couple of weeks ago and planted bean and pumpkin seeds in three different 'earth materials'.  Soil.  Pebbles.  Sand.  For two days nothing happened--just kinders watering faithfully and claiming that "their" seed was growing.  Then we got or first sprout.  In the sand.  Things are not going as they are supposed to....
